With multiple sports fixtures taking place around the world, fans are celebrating wins and licking their wounds after losses as best they can. National pride has spread the globe, with football soaring to the top of the news agenda, at the office water cooler and in people’s homes. In Britain alone, over 26.5 million — half the country’s population— tuned in to watch England battle it out for silver earlier this week.
The spirit of jubilation has also travelled across the Atlantic – last week IAG Cargo transported 15 tonnes of vodka between Europe to and the US – over 11,000 bottles to keep parties going in true Russian style. Coupled with a large shipment of holographic stickers moving from India to Colombia, these numbers paint a picture of fans scrambling to complete their football player sticker collections before the competition’s end. With more than one billion packets of football stickers sold each year across 110 countries, the stickers business generates a cool £650 million a year in revenue.
The 2014 World Cup was watched by three billion people internationally and this year’s viewing figures look on track to exceed this. IAG Cargo transports goods to over 350 destinations on our global network – be it vodka or stickers, we’re committed to getting goods to where fans need them. Good luck to the finalists and ‘Na Zdorovie!’
