With transatlantic flights grounded since March, IAG Cargo is pleased to announce the resumption of its Barcelona – New York route for both passengers and cargo.
Served by IAG Cargo’s long-haul, low-cost carrier LEVEL, the route serves as a major link between southern Europe and North America, with a weekly rotation that uses LEVEL’s A330-200. The service will commence 11th September 2020 with departures from Barcelona, and 13th September departing from New York’s JFK airport.
Celebrating the operation out of Barcelona, IAG Cargo is offering members of its FORWARD.REWARDS loyalty programme the chance to earn double rewards points for cargo booked on the route between 28th August and 28th September 2020.
Historically, this route has seen transit of mangoes, berries, minerals, leather products, veterinary equipment and footwear, and will offer forwarders additional access to Europe.
Since the start of the pandemic, IAG Cargo has established a network of over 340 scheduled cargo-only flights each week, converting passenger aircraft to use cabins for cargo use in order to maximise capacity for customers. These services will continue alongside passenger flights with cargo capacity as passenger traffic increases.
Commenting on the service, IAG Cargo’s Chief Commercial Officer John Cheetham said:
“We are delighted that LEVEL has been able to resume operations and get passengers back in the skies. Increased passenger flights mean more options for IAG Cargo customers. We look forward to supplying these important markets with much needed air cargo capacity.”
LEVEL’s Chief Commercial Officer Lucía Adrover said:
“We at LEVEL are pleased to announce that we are restarting our operations for passengers and cargo from Barcelona, contributing to IAG Cargo’s extensive freight traffic network made possible thanks to the group’s synergies. This is good news not only for the sector but also for the long-haul connectivity of the city of Barcelona.”
